Self esteem is often defined as how one estimates oneself. In Latin, esteem actually means 'to estimate'. A person that suffers from low self esteem may find it difficult to answer 'yes' to questions such as: 'Do I like myself?', 'Do I feel I deserve to be loved?', 'Do I think I’m a good person' and 'Do I deserve to be happy?'.

What is low self esteem ?

Self esteem is not the same as self-confidence, although they are related. Self-confident people may also suffer from low self-esteem; For example, actors, celebrities and public figures may appear to be totally self-confident but could easily suffer from low self-esteem away from the media attention.

Unfortunately, low self esteem is quite common in the English society of today. Those who suffer from a low sense of self esteem may also be more prone to drug problems or Alcohol abuse as they struggle to find their worth. Low self-esteem can also lead to depression and other negative emotions.

Signs of low self esteem

Common signs of low self esteem include:

  • Constant tiredness
  • Apathy
  • Feeling bored with life
  • Wishing life was better
  • Desiring 'something more' from your life
